Learning outcomes
This class aims at approaching in a critical way the models of analysis of language and texts
Program
The program consists of three parts related to the concepts of language faculty, language and text.
After an initial consolidation of the fundamentals of linguistisc, the course will continue, with emphasis on the history of linguistics, to present models of analysis relating to the linguistic concepts of "language faculty", "language" and "text."
60 years N. Chomsky published his well known Syntactc Structures, thus we then we will start with a brief assessment of the contribution of the chomskyan studies in different fields of linguistics. We will then observe the birth of descriptive theories for languages and texts acroos the 20th and 21st century. For the description of languages we will discuss the theory of principles and parameters, and its cennections with the typolgy; finally we will discuss textlinguistics as a formal tool.
