Learning outcomes

The course of Comparative Grammar of the Indo-European Languages describes the history and the main types of compounds, both nominal and verbal within the main both ancient and modern Indo-European languages. Particular attention will be given to individual aspects of the nominal compounds within the word formation in the classical languages.

Program

The course of Comparative Grammar describes the main aspects of word formation in order to focus to the composition as a phenomenon in both nominal and verbal word formation in ancient Indo-European languages. Different aspects and functions of the compounds will be illustrated in the context of the change in word formation in general and in grammars. The teaching is closely linked by its content as well as with curricula focused specifically on Latin and Greek, both also with the master course in Historical Linguistics and the study of modern Indo-European languages.

Examination Methods

Oral exam at the end of the course and presentation of a paper during the course; for working students a written assignment on a topic chosen with the help of the lecturer.
