Learning objectives
Philosophy of Art and Music The course aims to deepen the knowledge (conceptual, methodological and cultural tools, interpretative theories and artistic practices, learned during the Bachelor degree course) in order to refine their application skills (analyze and interpret the works of art, knowing how to read their texture, insert them in specific areas and cultural and historical environments). The course aims to make people understand the conceptual logics and structures, developing the ability to use a precise and adequate language; moreover, it aims to give the student the skills to confront the art world so that he can independently form a critical judgment and be able to express it in an appropriate language.

Program
The Tragic, the Subject and the Community in G.W.F. Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit
After a broad introduction to Hegel’s philosophy and the dialectical method, above all, the pages of the Phenomenology dedicated to the figure of the spirit will be read and commented on. The intention of this course is to provide the students with the instruments adapted to dialectical thought and to give them the possibility to experience how, in the years of the French Revolution, the relationship between the single person and society was also perceived in the arts (and especially through tragedy). Hegel asserts that German philosophy represents the Revolution in the form of concepts; thus, analyzing certain figures of the Phenomenology of Spirit might indicate a way of making a revolutionary experience even today. During the course, the following concepts will primarily be examined: the ethical world, law, guilt and destiny, the condition of right (legal status), self-alienation, Enlightenment, and morality. The analysis of the single figures will help to elaborate the different relationships with a given community the single subject might find itself involved in, but also the possibilities to change them not only in a political way but also by the arts in an anticipatory manner. If necessary, also the pages dedicated to self-consciousness and to the dialectics between lordship and bondage will be involved in the discussion.

The Hegelian text is quite difficult, so it is highly recommended to be present in the lessons.
In any case, the following indications may serve as an approach exclusively to Hegel's Aesthetics; thus, they don't substitute, at least not thoroughly, the study of the pages of the Phenomenology indicated. These texts don't enter into the list of texts for the examination:

Didactic methods
The course is composed of a frontal part that concerns selected pages of the texts in the program and a part of an exercise that foresees that the students prepare and give reports on other parts of the texts in the program that will be critically discussed in the classroom. These reports will be agreed upon during the first lessons. The course will not be strictly divided into the two parts, but will proceed by spacing them according to the interest that the individual chapters cover. Those who will give a report will see lightened the part to take to the final exam.
Learning assessment procedures
ASSESSMENT METHODS AND CRITERIA
The assessment of the learning outcomes involves an oral test, during which the issues discussed during the course and studied in the texts will be developed. The exam aims at ensuring knowledge of the topics under discussion and the ability to apply the concepts and logical methodologies to the various issues proposed.
This indivisible oral test is about the whole program; it consists of an interview with the teacher and tries to verify:
- the depth and breadth of the knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the ability to systematically connect knowledge;
- analytical and argumentative ability.
The vote is expressed in marks from 18 to 30/30.
ERASMUS students are requested to contact the teacher at the beginning of the courses to agree together the teaching methods and the assessment tests.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade
If the candidate has given a talk during the lessons the final exam counts half.
