Also offered in courses:
- Theoretical Philosophy of the course Master's degree in Linguistics
- Semiotics of the course Master's degree in Linguistics
The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning outcomes
1ST MODULE The course aims to introduce to the paradigms of reasoning with particular reference to multimedia communication field. What are the logical rules which can guarantee the value of our speeches? What are the arguments which are able to persuade and make acceptable what we suggest? What are the peculiar characters of multimedia communication? These are the issues that the second part of the course deal with, even with concrete examples taken from the field of multimedia 2ND MODULE This course aims at introducing the participants to the study of some of the properties of semiotic processes within language and other cognitive systems. The focus will be on the interface between cognitive processes and semiosis, on the relation between language and mind and on the formal analyses of the use of language in communication contexts, including neo-Gricean and post-Gricean approaches. The main task is familiarizing participants to the analysis and management of the linguistic, textual and cultural processes that are responsible for the creation of meaning and the interpretation of signs.
Program

MM: ARGOMENTAZIONE E INFORMAZIONE (M) II MODULO
------------------------
The course aims to clarify the presence of argumentative models in multimedia communication. To this end it takes up and applies some essential moments of classical and contemporary logic and focuses on an articulated review of the arguments, with a specific focus on the multimedia language of advertising or institutional communication. Attention to multimedia-level communication processes will be discussed to understand the semiotic implications of using new media. Reference texts: G. Boniolo-P. See, Tools for Reasoning. The logical rules, the argumentative practice, the probabilistic inference. Ediz. MyLab. With eText. With online update. Pearson, Milan 2017. G. MM: SEMIOTICA MULTIMEDIALE (M) I MODULO
------------------------
This course will consists in three distinct parts: (i) Formal properties of the semiotic processes, based on the results of the scientific investigation of mind, consciousness, language and communication in cognitive neuroscience and human sciences, (ii) Cognitive and social determinants of the pragmatic aspects of linguistic meaning; (iii) Some textual applications: the free will from an interdisciplinary perspective, with an analysis of some literary texts. Part (i) and part (ii) will be mainly based on frontal teaching and seminarial discussions. Part (iii) will involve the presentation of some 'case studies' in which the participants will be directly involved in terms of systematic student/teacher interaction methods

Examination Methods
------------------------
MM: ARGOMENTAZIONE E INFORMAZIONE (M) II MODULO
------------------------
Didactic methods Teaching methods consist of frontal lessons devoted primarily to a resumption of some notions of logic, both classical and contemporary; From here, the figures of argumentation are approached with a certain amplitude, with attention to their use in multimedia language; For this purpose we will also refer to concrete examples of advertising or institutional communication. Lastly, the relationship between the new media, the semiotics and the arguing structure will be tackled. Each lesson is recorded in WMA format and will be punctually loaded on the e-learning platform at the University to facilitate study / review for both attending students and those who can not attend. Throughout the academic year, an individual reception service is also available at the teacher's study, at the times indicated on the web pages and readily updated. Examination arrangements The assessment of the learning outcomes of the fundamentals and the related problematic nuclei will be carried out by means of an oral test of the program carried out. Before the written or oral test, the student must submit a written tutorial for up to six folders (maximum 15,000 spaces including spaces), in which he will comment on two commercials, highlighting the argumentative logic and the use of multimedia tools. The grades are expressed in thirtieths. The examination is the same for both attending students and non-attending ones.
