Learning outcomes

The course aims to present the theories and to provide the tools for the study of the relationship between performing arts and media, that is to say the technologies used to construct, fix, transmit, enjoy and comment one single performance or more and all its various components from the antiquity to the digital age. At the end of the course the students will be able to:
- understand the many possible interactions between media and performing arts;
- analyze the cultural, social and ideological aspects underneath them;
- compose on their own short written papers on a piece of performance;
- acquire the ability to improve their knowledge in time.

Program

Prerequisites
A basic knowledge of the key concepts of the discipline. Useful reading: Luigi Allegri, Luigi Allegri, "Prima lezione sul teatro", Laterza, 2012.

Course content
The course aims to address issues related to the interpretation of the actor and the preparation of some shows, linked to the Italian tradition, through the analysis of the testimonies left in television videos, audio recordings or digital movies. The period of main interest will be concentrated in the second part of the twentieth century, from about 1968 to 1999.

2. Critical analysis of passages chosen by "Kean, o genio e sregolatezza" taken from the versions of Dumas, Sartre and Gassman-Lucignani.
3. Study of the dramas: Pirandello, "The pleasure of honesty"; Bontempelli, "Nostra Dea"; Vondel, "Lucifer"; (Photocopies).
4. Study of the related interpretative essays: Studio dei relativi saggi interpretativi: S. Brunetti, "Il 'Kean' di Vittorio Gassman 'inquadrato' da Francesco Rosi, in "Francesco Rosi.
