Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide critical skills and tools to understand Spanish Literature and Culture in their historical and social context through reading and analyzing fundamental texts both in prose and verse. At the end of the course, students: - will learn about Spanish Literature in its historical and social context (genres and authors, picaresca, Lazarillo de Tormes and other authors); - will recognize the main characteristics of Spanish Literature; - will know the epistemological principles of the discipline and the peculiar characteristics of Spanish Literature and Culture.

Prerequisites and basic notions

None specific, but a good BA literary preparation

Program

Print editions / digital edition: some examples in Spanish literature. We will talk about the history of the typographical book, the printing and trade of ancient books, in Spain and Italy (in particular in Venice). The examples involve the works of Cervantes and Lope de Vega. We will also talk about digital editions and in particular about what a Digital Scientific Edition (DSE) is.
