Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing students with the statistical tools for analyzing economic data from different areas of a firm, supporting the decision making process within a firm.
Program
1. Data sources.
1.1. Census and survey data.
1.2. Simple and composite index numbers with applications (consumer price indices, measures of inflation, deflating nominal economic values).
2. Descriptive statistics.
2.1. Measures of central tendency and dispersion with applications to business data.
2.2. The Lorenz curve and the analysis of customer concentration.
2.3. Statistical methods for customer segmentation.
3. Statistical inference.
3.1. Point estimation and confidence interval estimation with applications to business data.
3.2. Hypotheses testing for means and proportions with applications to business data.
4. Business forecasting.
4.1. Smoothing techniques (moving averages and exponential smoothing).
4.2. Delphi analysis.
