Learning outcomes

This course follows the course titled Разновидности русского языка 1 (Varieties of Russian language 1) but it differs from it, firstly, in adopting a diacronic and socio-cultural approach to the language and, secondly, in focusing the attention on the evolution of some particular sectorial languages. The basic aim is to give the students the analytical instruments to study the language practically, in order to let the historic and cultural elements emerge directly from it. This type of analysis is helpful in working contexts as well.

Program

The basic topics are:
- The language diacronic concept. Sectorial languages in Russian.
- Journalism and the evolution of the Russian language.
- Role and prestige of the language in Russian perspective

Among the specialist topics we shall study:
- The réclame and trading language from the period of merchant mecenates up to Putin’s era.
- Russian business language and the cultural knowledge.

Learning/Educational Arrangements:
maximum interplay between students and professor by a seminarial principle. The professor will give basic metholodical and cognitive ground and offer some topics for a collective socio-linguistic analysis. Students will interact in two manners: by collective discussion of topics and by individual presentation of a specific theme to be preventively choosen with the professor.

REFERENCE LITERATURE:
- An anthology of the texts will be provided during the course

Examination Methods

the aim of the exam is to verify:
- The acquisition by the students of the basic space-temporal and conceptual coordinates learned in the course

Contents:
The exam will be about the contents included in the programme and about the materials analysed during the course.

Methods for conducting:
The exam is oral and is an interview during which the student must present with precision and showing the ability to judge independently about what has been learned during the course and the individual preparation.
