Learning objectives
At the end of the course the students: – will understand the working principles and the potential use of corpora and of other digital resources relating to the areas of tourism and commerce; – will be able to apply these concepts and tools to terminography, to the analysis and drafting of Spanish specialized texts, and to Spanish-Italian translation in the fields of tourism and international trade.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Students can take the Varieties of Spanish 2: tourism and commerce exam only after passing the Varieties of Spanish 1.
Program
The course program aims to introduce:
– to tourist and commercial texts and problems related to their translation (ES-IT; IT-ES);
– to specialized corpora and their use as tools for writing and translating tourist and commercial texts.

- Outlines of history and translation theory
- Dictionaries, corpora and other tools
- Problems of the Spanish-Italian translation
- Specialized corpora as terminological and translation tools
- Translation of tourist-commercial texts and their analysis
Prof Francesca Dalle Pezze will hold the 1. st part of the module (12 hours).

Bibliography
Didactic methods
The lectures, held entirely in Spanish, will be dedicated to theoretical-methodological aspects and questions of translation practice. Some lessons will be reserved for the analysis and revision of translations of tourist and commercial texts proposed by attending students. Teaching support methods: The supplementary and support teaching materials will be uploaded to the learning Moodle platform. Furthermore, a specific tutoring service will be activated to teach Spanish Language 1, the methods of which will be illustrated in lessons and the learning Moodle platform.
Learning assessment procedures
The assessment of learning outcomes includes:
– For students who will participate in the lessons, an ongoing evaluation and a written test, lasting 45 minutes and in Spanish, during the exam sessions, consisting of open-ended questions on the bibliography provided for those attending and on the topics explained in the lesson.
– For non-attending students, a written test, lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes and in Spanish, during the exam sessions, consisting of open-ended questions on the bibliography provided for non-attending students and on the materials uploaded in Moodle, as well as from practical questions (textual analysis and translations of parts of the texts published in Moodle).
Erasmus students are invited to contact the teachers.
It will be possible to take the exam with the program and methods indicated until the January/February 2026 session.
Evaluation criteria
The exam will ascertain the depth of knowledge and competences acquired on the topics on the syllabus, as well as the correct use of language, the terminological precision, and the ability to connect the information as a network of knowledge.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
For attending students, the grade will be divided into 10 points for the written test and 20 points for active participation in the classroom, attendance (70%) and ongoing assessment.
For non-attending students, the grade will be unique.
