Learning outcomes

Learning objectives

The goal of the course is to train medical students in acquiring the skills for the recognition of neurological disorder presentations, the formulation of a differential diagnosis, the treatment of common neurological diseases.

Students should be able to elicit a pertinent general and neurological history, recognize symptoms and signs of acute and chronic neurological disorders, perform an appropriate neurological examination, and use the related terminology.
Student should be able to select the appropriate investigations for neurological diagnostics, and be familiar with pharmacological and neurosurgical management, in addition to neurorehabilitation strategies.

Examination Methods

- The assessments purposes aim to determine the student's knowledge about the topics included in the syllabus, the analytical and practical skills, the language accuracy;
- The assessments contents concern the acquisition of the practical teaching topics and aim to verify the knowledge of the main illnesses and neurological syndromes specified during the lectures;
- The assessment method is oral;
- The evaluation of the final score will be assigned on a total of thirty points, based on the weighted average of the marks given in the oral assessments concerning neurology topics (max 24/30), neurosurgery and neuro rehabilitation (max 6/30). As regards the practical teaching examination, the student will receive a positive or a negative mark. The negative mark doesn't preclude the possibility to continue the examination, however it will affect negatively the evaluation.
