Learning outcomes

At the end of the practical training of the Surgical Area, students will have to achieve the following objectives:
• To implement the good practices of the doctor-patient relationship
• To have the ability to collect medical history and perform an objective examination
• Know and know how to apply clinical reasoning, the ability to identify priority or urgent and secondary problems, the ability to propose diagnostic hypotheses and to identify diagnostic assessments of greater sensitivity and specificity to confirm or not the hypotheses
• To be able to interpret laboratory tests
• To be able to interpret diagnostic imaging tests reports
• To know how to orientate oneself on decision-making processes relating to surgical treatment
• To be able to fill in the Hospitalization Acceptance/Discharge report
• To be able to evaluate the appropriateness of the indication to hospitalization and indicate rehabilitation or protected hospitalization pathways in other structures
• To know how to frame the reason for hospitalization in the complex of any chronicity, other critical issues and fragility of the patients
• To know how to indicate prevention and health education actions
• To become aware of the importance of respecting the start and end shift times
• To know how to apply the hygiene and behavioral rules typical of a surgical department
• To know how to interact correctly with the medical, nursing and technical staff
• To demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the different roles and tasks of team members

Examination Methods

The student will be assessed during the entire internship (lasting 150 hours) taking into consideration all the aspects that explore his medical skills, his professionalism and his ability to interact with the patient and the other professional figures present in Hospital. The tutor will express his evaluation, for each of the training objectives, using the following letters: A corresponding to excellent; B excellent; C good; D satisfactory; E enough; F insufficient. The final evaluation will be expressed, jointly by the tutor and the department manager, in terms of: "suitable" or "unsuitable". The internship is considered passed only if a positive assessment of suitability is obtained.
