Learning objectives

The Molecular Biology course aims to: (a) to gain an understanding of the fundamental processes of DNA science and the flow of information leading from DNA to RNA and protein; (b) to illustrate the principles of the mechanisms of operation and regulation of these processes; (c) to acquaint and apply the scientific method, through descriptions of experiments that have been used to elucidate molecular biological mechanisms; 4) to gain an understanding of the main molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of gene expression; 5) to gain an understanding of recombinant DNA technologies and the potential they offer in the field of modern biomedicine through descriptions of potential applications in the medical field, including but not limited to research, diagnostics, gene therapy, and genome editing.

Didactic methods

In-person lessons with mandatory attendance. Supplementary teaching material (reviews and scientific articles) available on the Moodle platform. Further articles are suggested to students who may be interested in learning more or obtaining more information on specific topics, and whose reading is optional.

Learning assessment procedures

Objectives: evaluate the student's preparation Contents: The exam consists of a written test, containing 28 multiple choice questions. There is also an open question, to which the student must respond in a concise, precise, clear and organic manner.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

For the written test one point for each correct answer. When 2 correct answers are possible, each is worth half a point. There are no penalties for missing or incorrect answers. The open question is worth from 0 to 3 points depending on the quality, clarity, precision and depth of the answer.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

Written test: one point for each correct answer. From 0 to 3 points for the open question
