Program
The course will focus on the improvement of the four linguistics abilities (reading, writing, listening, speaking) for scientific use. In particular, the following activities will be carried out: - reading comprehension of scientific texts; - listening comprehension of scientific speech/interaction; - writing of scientific texts; - spoken scientific presentations; - introduction to Dentistry specialised lexicon; - grammar revision according to students' needs; - introduction to doctor-patient communication in intercultural contexts. (2012) Academic Writing for Graduate Students, The University of Michigan Press. Reference grammar: Murphy, R. (any edition) English Grammar in Use for Intermediate Students of English. Cambridge University Press. Further study material will be provided by the teacher.
Examination Methods
The exam will focus on the topics discussed during the course and it will consist of a written test (multiple choice and open questions) and an oral test (oral presentation) in order to verify the students' competence and critical understanding of what was discussed in class.
