Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to make the Student aware of the specific power of each imaging technique (Conventional Radiology, Ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Nuclear Medicine) in the exploration of the various organs and systems. The course is organized through ex cathedra lessons held by expert teachers in the various topics; lessons will be based on the illustration of diagnostic paths and typical semeiological findings. The student will also attend practical exercises in some sections of the Institute of Radiology, during which the student will see how to perform the most common diagnostic procedures. PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING AND RADIOTHERAPY MODULE. To learn the basics of the CT, cone-beam CT, MR and x-rays endoral equipment, to learn how to describe the most important operating principles, the different indications, the risks and contraindications. DIAGNOSTIC MODULE FOR IMAGES AND RADIOTHERAPY.The student has to acquire the elementary notions related to the modalities of interaction between the forms of energy used by the various techniques and the normal/pathological biological structures; this must be integrated with the knowledge of the degree of invasiveness (including the radiant risk) and the economic cost regarding the various diagnostic procedures. The principles of formation of the radiographic image and the projective techniques for the realization of the radiological image are then illustrated. It is also illustrated the radiological aspect of the various pathological conditions of the odontostomatological and maxillofacial district (caries, inflammation, periodontal disease, cysts, benign and malignant tumors, fibro-osseous lesions, traumas, temporomandibular joint diseases). The role of CT and MRI in dentistry job is discussed. The diagnostic algorithms and radiological methods of the most significant organ diseases are also briefly illustrated: lung consolidation, pulmonary embolism and stroke jaundice.
