Period

2nd Semester dal Mar 1, 2010 al Jun 15, 2010.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to supply some basic notions about the most frequent problems to be faced in the numerical field and the related solution algorithms, both from a theoretical point of view (class lectures) and from a practical one (laboratory exercises); the applicability and performance of the algorithms introduced is also discussed in some extent.
It includes 32 hours of class lectures (4 CFU) and 30 hours of laboratory exercises (2 CFU).

Program

An outline of error analyis. Nonlinear equations in one variable. Systems of linear equations. Interpolation and approximation in one variable. Numerical derivatives and integrals of functions of one variable.

Examination Methods

The final examination consists in a written test, to be held in the laboratory with the help of the MATLAB code and of the functions supplied by the teacher; typically, this requires the solution of three problems in a 2h30m time.
An oral examination can follow, on the student's request, provided the result of the written test is not highly negative.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
