Learning objectives

Students will acquire/improve their ability to understand and produce ¬both written and oral texts about nursing practice. Particular attention will be given to the lexical, syntactic, phonological and pragmatic aspects of medical English.

Prerequisites and basic notions

- Ability to read and understand texts equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
- Familiarity with basic basic terms related to the field of Nursing in English

Program

The program is designed to enhance linguistic skills specific to the healthcare context. Students will delve deeply into medical vocabulary in English, significantly expanding their specialized lexicon.
Through practical exercises and theoretical lessons, students will acquire new terms and phrases commonly used in the medical field, essential for effective communication with English-speaking patients and colleagues.
The course includes modules dedicated to the art of history taking in English, allowing students to develop crucial skills for accurately and clearly assessing patient conditions. Simulations and role-playing activities will be provided to practice interaction techniques and clinical information gathering.
Additionally, students will analyze scientific texts, deepening their knowledge of academic English, and learning to decode and understand medical journal articles, clinical studies, and other professional materials. Special attention will be given to the structure and composition of scientific texts, offering tools to correctly interpret complex content and to write clearly and professionally.
The program encourages active participation through discussions, exercises, and collaborative activities simulating real-life nursing situations. Thus, students will be prepared linguistically and professionally to face the challenges of an international healthcare environment.

Didactic methods

A variety of teaching methods are used to provide a comprehensive and interactive learning experience. It includes theoretical lectures and interactive practical exercises, simulations of real-world scenarios with immediate feedback, guided analysis of scientific texts, discussions, and collaborative activities such as seminars and group projects, as well as written assignments and projects with peer-to-peer reviews. These methods balance theory and practice, effectively preparing students for the real medical-nursing context.
