Learning outcomes
Professional laboratories teaching aims at the acquisition of technical and practical skills along with organizational, social and problem solving abilities. Learning takes place in protected contexts and it is based on written cases and role-playing with simulated operators. All this means to reduce the emotional impact of experiencing real life situations but also to ensure ethics and safety to patients. Additionally, the lab offers students the opportunity to train and combine both clinical theory and practice. Laboratory activities occur in well-equipped settings where small groups of students are supervised by a tutor. This is an essential aspect of traineeship activities.
The contents are related to the lessons of Nursing Clinical Methodology, Nursing Clinic 1 and Nursing Clinic 2
Program
Teaching involves the following skill-tested experimentation:
Personal care and hygiene
Settings / Scenarios will be set up allowing the student to practice in:
Preparation of the material to perform perineal hygiene on a dummy
Technique performance, respecting the principles of hygiene and safety both for the patient and the operator.
Change of bed linen.
Person mobilization
Simulated situations where the trainees are expected to experience.
Peer-assisted mobility facilitation when slight mobility deficits are involved (i.e. mobilization in bed, bed-armchair, wheelchair-bed)
Selection and use of some tools to ease mobilization (i.e. high roller, hoist, etc.).
Technique performance, respecting the ergonomic and safety principles both for the patient and the operator.
Case histories: simulated data collection
First students will be shown a video and then, in groups, they will have to highlight sources, methods, organization of the survey.
