Program
Teaching involves the following skill-tested experimentation:
Personal care and hygiene
Settings / Scenarios will be set up allowing the student to practice in:
preparation of the material to perform perineal hygiene on a dummy,
technique performance, respecting the principles of hygiene and safety both for the patient and the operator,
change of bed linen.
Measurement of vital parameters
There will be a peer experimentation of the measurement and first interpretation of the vital parameters (Arterial pressure, pulse, respiration rate, saturation, body temperature).
Person mobilization
Simulated situations where the trainees are expected to experience:
peer-assisted mobility facilitation when slight mobility deficits are involved (i.e. mobilization in bed, bed-armchair, wheelchair-bed),
selection and use of some tools to ease mobilization (i.e. high roller, hoist, etc.),
technique performance, respecting the ergonomic and safety principles both for the patient and the operator.
Clinical case analysis: (connections with the physiology and pathophysiology)
There will be a clinical case and during the laboratory there will be a time of:
analysis in small groups, guided by questions of in-depth, of the theoretical contents needed to understand and interpret the data / manifestations of the situation,
plenary discussion, led by an expert.
Case histories: simulated data collection
Will be shown a video to the student and then, in groups, they will have to highlight sources, methods, organization of the survey.
Wear sterile gloves and sterile field, handwash
There will be settings / scenarios where the student can practice several times in:
selection of appropriate handwashing,
preparation of the material to set up a sterile field and wear sterile gloves in compliance with the principles of sterility.
Use sources of information for bibliographic research
Experimentation in research and consultation of scientific journals, guidelines..
Examination Methods
Assessment
At the end of the course year, students will get the "approved" mark in their examination report, if they have attended the labs regularly (100%) and their attendance is certified. Otherwise, they will have to catch up for their absence or if any remedial work is needed.
