The course aims to provide the student with technical-practical, relational, problem-solving and organizational skills in safe setting, before clinical practice in clinical environment with patients, in order to reduce the emotional impact that comes from real situations and guarantee ethicality and safety to patients. For these reasons this course represents a prerequisite for the clinical practice. It also offers to student the opportunity to train himself in applying the theoretical principles to practice situations. The main skills of the first year of the Bachelor Degree are: measuring vital parameters, hand hygiene, choice and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), setting up a sterile field, staging and treatment of a pressure injury , take care of the person's body, apply the principles of ergonomics, carry out the person's positioning / transfer and assisted positioning maneuvers, assessment skills and objective examination.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Study of the bibliography suggested in the reference program provided for each exercise/laboratory

Program

The course includes the experimentation in a protected environment of the following skills: - Detection of vital signs - Principles of ergonomics, grips and techniques for positioning/transferring and walking the person - Integrate basic disciplines, apply knowledge of physiology, physiopathology and nursing to a case - Conduct an interview and objective examination to collect data on the needs and requirements of the person - Hand hygiene, choice and use of PPE and preparation of a sterile field - Staging a pressure lesion and applying the criteria for choosing the treatment

Didactic methods

The course includes the experimentation in a protected environment of the following skills: - Detection of vital signs There will be a peer experimentation of the measurement and initial interpretation of vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, saturation, body temperature). - Principles of ergonomics, grips and techniques for positioning/transferring and walking the person Situations will be created in which the following are foreseen: peer experimentation of the mobilization of the assisted person with slight mobility deficits (e.g. mobilization in bed, bed-chair, wheelchair bed), selection and use of some devices useful for mobilization (e.g. high-sliding sheet, hoist, etc.), execution of the maneuver respecting the ergonomic and safety principles for the assisted person and the operator. - Integrate basic disciplines, apply knowledge of physiology, physiopathology and nursing to a case A clinical case will be prepared and during the laboratory there will be a moment of: analysis in small groups, guided by in-depth questions, of the theoretical contents necessary to understand and interpret the data/manifestations of the person's situation, discussion in plenary, guided by an expert. - Conduct an interview and objective examination to collect data on the person's needs and requirements Active experimentation with role-playing, with subsequent analysis in small groups with the aim of understanding the sources, methods, and organization of the assessment. - Hand hygiene, choice and use of PPE and preparation of a sterile field Settings/scenarios will be prepared where the student will be able to practice several times in: selecting appropriate devices and performing hand hygiene, preparing the material to set up a sterile field and wearing sterile gloves in compliance with the principles of sterility - Staging a pressure lesion and applying the criteria for choosing the treatment Analysis of situations in small groups, guided by in-depth questions, of the theoretical contents necessary to understand the patient's situation, staging the pressure lesion and identifying some management interventions, subsequent discussion in plenary, guided by an expert.

Learning assessment procedures
