Program

Respiration Basics of physiology and pathophysiology of respiration: ventilation, gas exchange and transport, respiratory work and defense mechanisms of the respiratory tract Definitions, clinical and emotional manifestations of the main alterations: hypoxia, cyanosis, dyspnoea, cough, hemoptysis, bronchial obstruction, sputum, pathological breaths. Breathing assessment and severity indicators Hypoxia: assessment, degree and causes of hypoxia and care interventions for the acute situation and rehabilitation and maintenance interventions for chronic hypoxia Dyspnoea: assessment and related symptoms, impact of dyspnoea for the person and Gift et al model, management assistance interventions in the acute phase, preventive and to reduce negative sensations Bronchial obstruction: assessment, causes of obstruction and prevention and management interventions for the person at risk or with bronchial obstruction Oxygen therapy and its surveillance : low flow and high flow dispensing systems. Calculation of the FiO2 to be guaranteed. Monitoring of the patient and the skin in the contact areas. Long-term oxygen therapy. Body care and oral hygiene Clinical outcomes Meaning of body care for the person and its social and cultural significance Basic principles for educating the person to select products, sequences and rehabilitation guidelines Supervision of support operators Assessment and alterations in the personal care: forgetfulness, neglect and incapacity and interventions to support the person Interventions to save energy in people with problems of tolerance to physical activity and interventions to prevent aggression in people with cognitive problems Oral and dental hygiene. Evaluation of the oral hygiene of the person, aids and products, routine hygiene of the oral cavity and care of the dental prosthesis. Definition of the main alterations of the oral cavity: caries, gingivitis and periodontitis, mucositis, stomatitis, oral candidiasis and canker sores. Pain Guiding principles in pain assessment and treatment Classification of pain based on duration, etiopathogenesis and location Assessment of pain dimensions: presence, intensity, location, irradiation and triggering factors Assessment tools and indicators for pain assessment in collaborating and non-collaborating adults (coma, cognitive decline) Prevention and management of pain from diagnostic / therapeutic and care procedures

Didactic methods

Lectures will be used during teaching, associated with exercises guided by the teacher through the use of micro situations, cases in stages, video projections, film frames, analysis of clinical cases. Excerpts from readings of biographies, testimonies of patients, family members or professionals will be used to discuss and reflect on the perceptions of the needs of patients and relatives, the impact of the disease and the temporary or progressive loss of autonomy.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam is written and is organized in 2 blocks: - Block A: General Nursing (2 CFU) and Surgical Assistance (1 CFU) - Block B: Clinical Nursing Methodology (2 CFU) and Clinical Nursing I (1 CFU). The student can take both Blocks in the same session, or he can choose to take only Block A or Block B. It is not possible to take single Module exams as the contents are very integrated. On the occasion of the appeal, students communicate before the exam which Block / hi they intend to take. The tests will consist of about 10-12 questions with multiple choice questions closed answer [on average with four answers of which only one correct] for knowledge / application objectives, about 25-30 questions with short open answer in which arguments on the clinical contents for analysis objectives, independent judgment and decision making. The questions are also proposed as summaries of clinical cases.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The weight and number of questions is proportionate to the credits (2 for general nursing and clinical nursing methodology and 1 for surgical nursing, and clinical nursing I). Passing the exam is bound to sufficient performance in the various modules. The final grade originates from the average of the results of Block A and Block B. This grade may also include elements relating to active participation, contributions during lessons and adherence to the pre-reading mandates of the text. The student who takes the single Block will complete the exam within the next 2 sessions.
