Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
Regarding critical situations, the student is expected to learn:
- the ability to understand signs and symptoms of critical situations or clinical worsening, in order to perform targeted
diagnosis and understand the patient's problems;
- the ability to define criteria of instability or evolution of the clinical situation;
- the ability to deduce dignostic/therapeutic, pharmacologic options and targeted carev and support interventions;
- to identify the family and patient's needles in a critical situation;
- to handle the relationship with the patient and her/his family;
- the ability to identify the clinical manifestations of the commonest complications which can occur during and after surgery, and to know the prevention criteria
Program
Hypovolemic, septic, cardiogenic and anaphylactic shock: diagnostic and therapeutic approach, causes, clinical pictures (common and origin based manifestations), initial treatment in order to stabilize the vital functions, further tretment and pharmacologic management. Blood gas analysis.
Brain trauma: incidence and causes.
- Mild-average- severe trauma and DAI (Diffuse Axonal Injury): clinical pictures and diagnostic approach. First approach in severe injury.
- Medical approach in order to prevent and lower intracranial hypertension and cerebral oedema: ventilation, pressure and temperature control, sedation, diuretics, seizures prophylaxis.
- Surgical approach: indication for operation
Post-anoxic coma: evaluation and treatment strategies, particularly therapeutic hypothermia.
Coma and vegetative state: meaning of terms and clinical definition. Traumatic and metabolic causes of consciousness alteration
Monitoring of the patient in coma and vegetative state.
Acute Respiratory Failure:
clòinical and blood gas analysis criteria for the diagnosis of acute respiratory failure.
Possible pulmonary and extra-pulmonary causes of acute respiratory failure
