Educational and rehabilitative care approach to the patient undergoing oesophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy and sternotomy:
- pulmonary neoplasia
- heart valve replacement
- coronary artery bypass
Management of chest drainage
Management of the patient with haemotransfusion with summary of Italian laws
Patient education in the management of treatment with TAO or NAO
Setting up and management of veno-venous ECMO in the intensive care unit

Program
Educational and rehabilitative care approach to the patient undergoing oesophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy and sternotomy:
- pulmonary neoplasia
- heart valve replacement
- coronary artery bypass
Cardiac diseases and types of cardiac surgery, how they are performed, preoperative - intraoperative and postoperative development and complications, use of specific machines, postoperative care and rehabilitation. Carrying out TAVI surgery in hospital and postoperative care.
Patients with total and partial oesophagectomy surgery, how they should be prepared, how the surgery is performed, pre- and postoperative complications.
Management of chest drainage: how and why a chest drain is placed, complications during placement of a chest drain and care of it, precautions to be taken and preparation. Patient care with chest drainage and post chest drainage.
Management of the patient with haemotransfusion: measures and controls to be undertaken before, during and after a transfusion. Checks to be made and possible reactions. How to react in reactions and what measures to undertake. What laws exist in Italy and Europe, and what they entail.
Care of patients with veno-venous ECMO: when an ECMO is used, how it is commissioned and what the patient needs, complications during commissioning, management and care of the ECMO patient.
Education and monitoring of a patient treated with TAO or NAO. What complications may occur, how the patient should be educated and case maintained.

Examination Methods
The examination is written. Each module of the Course offers multiple choice questions and open/short answer reasoning questions which provide for the acquisition of knowledge in clinical nursing in the vital criticality related to intra- and extra-hospital care in all its organisational contexts. The student demonstrates that he/she can identify and select suitable behaviours for the professional competences, declined by roles, in the management of care processes oriented to the implementation of the best-practice, based on safety standards of the patient and the operator, in the prevention of complications derived from the pathology and its treatment, in the use of medical devices and prescriptions, of medical diagnostic order.
The final result is considered to be positive if at least 18/30ths are passed.
