Learning objectives
The first year laboratories aim to help students to acquire basic obstetric care skills and midwifery management in simulation contexts.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The student must possess theoretical knowledge relating to: - healthcare-related infections - the infectious chain and interventions to interrupt it - social handwashing technique with soap and water - antiseptic handwashing technique with water and antiseptic or with an alcohol solution - personal protective equipment and their function - classification of medical waste and its correct management - standard precautions to reduce healthcare-related infections - clinical situation and degree of patient mobility - classification of medical waste and its correct management - perineal hygiene technique at the bedside - assessment of patient mobility - technique for positioning the patient in the lateral decubitus position - technique for transferring the partially dependent patient from supine to sitting - procedure for making an occupied bed - vital signs, normal ranges and factors that influence them - procedure for assessing and measuring: peripheral arterial pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, peripheral arterial saturation

To obtain laboratory certification, the following are required: - punctuality (arriving at the laboratory after the presentation of the objectives does not allow participation) and mandatory attendance (100%) - knowledge of the prerequisites described - active participation in the proposed activities
