Learning outcomes

The course wants to offer to the student the opportunities to understand the main changements that have occourred in Italy and Europe about birth; to master the importance of obstetric care network between hospital and territory, to care and support women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period.

Program

• Course presentation;
• history of the antenatal and postnatal classes, from the Russian-Soviet psychoprophylaxis (Platonov, etc..) to the French application (Lamaze, clinique des metallurgistes – breathing techniques); read (tension-fear of pain); RAT Italian experience of Piscicelli (teaching of the forced pushes, conception of the female body as a machine);
• active birth (Balaskas – Maghella) then / simultaneously the dissemination of works about the body based on the perception, the actuality in the Italian context;
• the water birth;
• unconventional relaxation techniques in labor;
• development of the different models of antenatal courses their organizational models;
• best practices, in light of the new LG 2011 issued by the Ministry of Health (POMI);
• changes made by the Code of Ethics and Professional profile on the role of the midwife in the physiological pathways (distinct from pathological pathways);
• remote Benefits of the antenatal courses;
• to analyze critically the contradictions between what is told in the courses and what is done in real assistance;
• the importance of a regional network between hospital and territory for a real midwifery partnership in pregnancy, labor, birth and postnatal period;
• the birth paths and the collaborations between hospital and territory: the organizational models in Italy and England between the present and the future.

Examination Methods

An essay about a model of antenatal class to be drawn up also in small groups. The goal of the exam is to determine whether, as explained in the classroom, the students bring off an antenatal class, "from theory to practice".
