Learning outcomes
Purpose of the course is to provide the student with basic notions concerning the anatomy of the female and male reproductive apparatus, development of puberty, endocrine-reproductive functions of both sexes.
Also, the course deals with the steps of conception, implantation and placentation.
Attention is given to principles of prevention in the ob-gyn context.
Program
The anatomy of the female genital tract: the pelvis, the pelvic floor, external genitalia, the urethra, the vagina, the uterus, the adnexa, the pelvic ligaments.
The male genital tract: penis, testis, seminal vesicles, prostate, urethra. Development of the reproductive-sexual function: from fetal life to childhood and puberty.
Female and male endocrine-reproductive functions: the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadic axis.
Physiology of the menstrual cycle: regulation of the ovarian function; hormonal, cytological, histological aspects.
Conception and implantation: origin and maturation of gametes; stages of embryo development.
Feto-placental steroidogenesis.
Principles of prevention in obstetrics and gynecology.
