Program
Pharmacokinetics: drug definition, classifications, pharmaceutical formulations, generic drugs versus specialty drugs. Absorption: classification of drug administration routes, functional differences, advantages, limits, contraindications, kinetic differences, concept of bioavailability.
Distribution of drugs: apparent volume of distribution, fluxes and times of equilibrium, binding to plasma proteins.
Drug metabolism: phase I and II reactions, CYP, drug induction, pharmacogenomics
Elimination of drugs: Clearance, half-life, changes induced by age, drugs, pathologies; balance of administration and relative kinetics
Pharmacodynamics: definition of receptor and classification of receptors; drug-receptor interaction, concepts of affinity, efficacy, agonism-antagonism. Cellular basis of the generation of effects, concepts of toxicity, adverse reactions.
Operational definitions: effective dose, lethal dose, toxic dose, therapeutic window
Identification of active ingredients and clinical trials of drugs in the different phases. Pharmacovigilance, adverse reactions and their reporting.
Special Pharmacology: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Muscle Relaxant Drugs, Pain Relief Drugs, Neurotrophic Drugs.
