Learning objectives
The course aims to describe surgical and complex pathologies, in all age groups, which then require the rehabilitation intervention of the speech therapist. The student must be able to implement an assessment, a rehabilitation intervention and adequate counseling interventions in patients with complex pathologies, both in the acute phase during hospitalization and in the home or professional environment, in follow-ups. MODULE ENT IN LARYNX PATHOLOGIES The module aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for understanding the diagnostic-therapeutic acts of ENT relevance, referred to general pathologies of the larynx, both in developmental age and in adulthood, with the related surgery. At the end of the course, the student must be able to carry out an adequate clinical assessment and subsequently plan a specific rehabilitation therapeutic plan. MODULE MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY The course aims to provide precise knowledge of the main stages of embryological development and growth of the stomatognathic and craniofacial system. It also provides indications on diagnosis and corrective and reconstructive surgical treatment of pathologies affecting the oral and/or maxillofacial region. MODULE SPEECH THERAPY IN NEONATAL AND PEDIATRIC CRITICAL AREA The module aims to provide the student with the knowledge to identify and distinguish the characteristics of swallowing and feeding disorders in neonatal and pediatric age. At the end of the course the student will be able to understand and apply the principles of clinical speech therapy assessment, identifying the most appropriate assessment tools and defining the objectives of care. Finally, the student will be able to identify and choose the main re-educational and management techniques in order to develop an individualized rehabilitation project. MODULE SPEECH THERAPY IN ENT SURGICAL PATHOLOGIES The module aims to lead the student to acquire skills regarding speech therapy rehabilitation techniques in surgical and therapeutic sequelae. At the end of the course, the student must acquire the ability to critically reason on the planning of the rehabilitation path of patients with laryngeal surgery, partial and total laryngectomy, demolitive and reconstructive interventions of the oral cavity, and interventions in general of the head and neck district including peripheral paralysis. Students also acquire counseling skills in the approach to the surgical patient and the family. The skills achieved must allow them to manage the patient's path both during hospitalization and in the post-hospitalization follow-up in adapting to the new condition even in a domestic/professional environment. MODULE SPEECH THERAPY IN ORAL FUNCTIONS The aim of the course is to know the main alterations of oral functions both in developmental age and in adulthood, the methods of evaluation and the main techniques of speech therapy habilitation/rehabilitation, in relation to the alteration of the function, to the global pathological picture, to the age, to the development of the individual and to the context in which he is inserted. The student must be able to: know the correlation between the detected disorders and the dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system, understand the immediate effect of the dysfunctions at each age, potential evolutions and carry out a clinical reasoning, based on scientific evidence, on the cases presented.
