Period
1 SEMESTRE PROFESSIONI SANITARIE dal Oct 1, 2021 al Dec 23, 2021.
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is the acquisition of the fundamental bioengineering (physics, chemistry and fluid dynamics), physiopathological, and surgical concepts necessary for the understanding of adult cardiac surgery, with particular reference to extracorporeal circulation.
In particular, elements of basic fluid dynamics will be provided, tools necessary to understand the behavior of blood within the cardiovascular system.
The mathematical models that best approximate the fluid dynamic behavior of blood will be analyzed, necessary to understand the basic concepts in the design of medical systems used during extracorporeal circulation.
Finally, life support systems and cardiac valve prostheses that can be implanted during extracorporeal circulation will be discussed.
Program
1. International units of measurement used in medicine and conversion to those used in engineering. Fluid dynamics and rheological models of blood with application to the different configurations of the cardiovascular system.
2. Study of blood tissue and the rheological models that best represent it. Extra Corporeal Circulation: when it is used and pathologies to be treated that require this technique.
3. Essential components of medical devices to be used during extracorporeal circulation and basic design criteria. Cardioplegia
4. Bioengineering of biological and mechanical heart valve prostheses. Left ventricular assist systems (elements of pathophysiology, surgery, and bioengineering).
5. Conclusions
