Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
The course of Pneumology and Pulmonary Pathology has integrated the teachings of Pulmonary diagnostics, Thoracic surgery and diagnostic techniques and methods in pneumology.
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge concerning the diagnosis of thoraco-respiratory symptoms, the pathophysiology of the respiratory diseases, diagnostic procedures and their indications and finally principles of medical and surgical therapy. At the end of the course the student will be able to list the major indications and contraindications, complications, costs, the diagnostic yield of the following: ventilatory function tests, bronchoscopy and related techniques (bronchoalveolar lavage cytology, transbronchial biopsy), pleural thoracentesis and thoracoscopy, fine needle transcutaneous lung biopsy. Principles and techniques of surgical treatment of the chest and lung diseases.
Program
Respiratory failure: Define and classify the RF, acute and chronic pathophysiological mechanisms, investigations to be carried out to identify the causes of RF. Principles and methods of oxygen therapy.
Apnea during sleep: Classify the main forms of breathing problems during sleep, the pathophysiological mechanisms, investigations for the diagnosis.
Chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma and pulmonary emphysema: Sort chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, explain the pathogenesis and pathophysiology, indicate the necessary investigations for the diagnosis and functional evaluation.
Bronchiectasis: Define and classify bronchiectasis based etiological (congenital, acquired, poststenotic), list the investigations to identify and bronchiectasis valutame extension, to illustrate the principles of therapy.
Interstitial lung disease: definition and classification.
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis: Describe the pathogenesis and pathological anatomy and identify the three causative agents most frequently cause disease
Acute bronchitis and pneumonia bacterial, viral, fungal: List the etiologic agents and describe the symptoms of acute bronchitis. Describe the epidemiology and list the etiological agents of pneumonia-hospital and hospital. List the appropriate diagnostic methods for the etiologic diagnosis of pneumonia emphasizing the usefulness and cost.
Pulmonary tuberculosis: Describe the current epidemiology of the disease and identify risk groups; briefly describe the characteristics of the causative agent, the mode of contagion and infection.
Classify, list the primary forms and those post-primary, and anatomical and clinical outcomes. Indicate the investigations to reach the diagnosis and explain the criteria for the finding of infection and disease.
Acute respiratory distress syndrome: Describe the pathophysiology of acute respiratory distress syndromes and list the key investigation for diagnosis.
Pulmonary embolism and pulmonary heart disease: pathophysiology and diagnostic tests. Principles of therapy.
Lung cancer: epidemiology and risk factors of lung cancer; diagnostic preferential in lung masses in relation to a different place of occurrence considering various methods cyto-histological sampling. Histological types of bronchial carcinoma indicating the relative frequency, topographic features and clinical prognosis and biological behavior, with reference histotype, the grade and stage. Investigations to diagnose lung cancer and describe radiological aspects fundamental. Necessary investigations to identify metastases. Principles of staging lung cancer. Principles of surgical treatment of lung cancer.
Pleural effusion, pleurisy, pleural malignancy: Grade pleural effusions.
Methods to perform the thoracentesis, investigations to be carried out on pleural fluid. Neoplasms of the pleura.
Pneumothorax (PNX): Definition and classification of pneumothorax. Investigations necessary to confirm the diagnosis of pneumothorax and identify the etiology. Chest drain and instructions for its use. Surgical treatment and (briefly).
Mediastinal pathology: Subdivision of the lodges mediastinal topographic, structural and topographic anatomy of the mediastinal organs. Expansive mediastinal disorders and topographical site preference.
Mediastinal syndrome. Radiological, biochemical, endoscopic and biopsy designed to help identify and clarify the nature of a training expansive mediastinal.
Thoracic trauma: Define the open and closed chest trauma. Pathophysiology of rib fracture, the flap parietal Mobile, pneumothorax and dell'emotorace; complications of rib fracture. The pulmonary contusion and hematoma pulmonary and their pathophysiology. Rupture of the esophagus and bronchi. Clinical picture and the pathophysiology of diaphragm rupture.
Lung transplantation: Describe briefly the types of lung transplant feasible.
