Learning objectives

At the end of the internship period carried out at the thesis location, the student must acquire: • adequate preparation in the basic disciplines, such as to allow a better understanding of the most relevant elements that underlie the pathological processes that develop in the developmental, adult and geriatric age on which the diagnostic intervention is focused; • theoretical and practical knowledge of each of the professional sectors, with particular regard to innovative methodologies; • ability to critically assess the reliability of test results and analyzes; • ability to take responsibility for their actions according to the objectives and priorities of the work activity, the correct fulfillment of the analytical procedures, in verifying the correspondence of the services provided to the indicators and standards set by the person in charge of the structure; • ability to perform a bibliographic and updating research through the use of updated databases, making critical reading of technical and scientific articles; • a good level of knowledge of the English language, as well as Italian, in order to allow the understanding of international literature; • competence useful for the management of laboratory information systems; • ability to identify, prevent and deal with critical events related to risks of various kinds and types associated with the activity in the different areas of the laboratory, applying workplace safety standards, • respect for ethical and deontological principles in relations with users or other health professionals, establishing effective and collaborative relationships in the awareness of the specific characteristics of the different professional roles; • ability to work in groups and to operate with defined degrees of autonomy; • indispensable knowledge for the implementation and monitoring of Total Quality through the use of correct methodologies; • ability to transmit and manage information in the workplace, proving to be able to fill out the dedicated forms, communicating verbally and written in a clear, concise and professional way, technically and grammatically accurate, in order also to convey ideas, pose problems and find the related solutions; • produce, collect and process the data necessary for the preparation of the final thesis, organizing and planning the indispensable work for the same

Prerequisites and basic notions

Students may access the internship if: - they have regularly attended theoretical activities, particularly those in professional disciplines; - they have regularly attended professional workshops deemed preparatory to the internship; - they are in compliance with the regulations in force at the time of enrollment and subsequent amendments regarding the requirements/obligations for accessing the internship; - they have successfully completed the second-year internship evaluation, certifying the achievement of the educational objectives set out in the Degree Course.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade is determined based on the following elements: Internship evaluation: the host institution's reference guide evaluates the student's training and the thesis produced, awarding a maximum score of 10 points. Written exam: consists of 40 multiple-choice and open-ended questions related to specific program topics. The maximum score awarded is 8 points (equal to 0.2 points for each question). Oral exam: aims to assess knowledge of the program topics, as well as the student's ability to apply analytical and organizational skills. The maximum score is 12 points. The final grade is expressed in thirtieths. The course is considered successful with a score of 18/30 or higher.
