Learning outcomes
• Knowledge of lexical items used in health and safety in the workplace and public sectors.
• Consolidation of grammatical functions and forms applied to health and safety.
• Use of language related to H&S skills and competences.
• Introduction to rules and regulations, with a view to conducting a site visit.
Program
The course focuses on teacher-student interaction to practise specific language forms and functions in Health and Safety. Teaching material is based on sector articles, and internet content used to consolidate and enhance students' knowledge of the subject matter.
Activities include: discussion, analysis and comprehension of specific articles; identification of grammatical and lexical value within a scientific text; Italian-English translation effect.
Students should be able to manage a variety of linguistic components in order to establish and retain peer interaction.
Examination Methods
Oral exam: power point presentation of a group case study assigned by the teacher. Marks are given on an individual performance basis.
Written exam: dictation, reading comprehension with closed multiple-choice questions, and gapfill related to specfic lexis and grammar functions.
