Learning outcomes
This course is designed to provide the basic methodological elements of statistics and epidemiology that can assist the student in understanding the frequency, distribution, and causes of diseases. By the end of the course, the student should be able to identify and calculate the correct measure to use.
Program
Descriptive statistics.
Measures of position. Measures of variability.
Measures of association.
Types of epidemiologic study (cross-sectional, longitudinal, retrospective).
Measures of disease occurrence. Confounding.
Probability and odds.
Diagnostic tests: sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value.
