This Physiopathology unit is offered within the 1st year curriculum. Its aims are: i) to introduce students to basic medical physiology, ii) to teach physiopathology principles proceeding by organs and/or apparatuses

This Physiopathology unit is offered within the 1st year curriculum. Its aims are: i) to introduce students to basic medical physiology, ii) to teach physiopathology principles proceeding by organs and/or apparatuses
Syllabus
Physiopathology of the vascular system (embolic thrombus injury and hemorrhagic lesions)
Heart physiopathology (ischemic alterations, electrical conduction disturbances, causes and clinical signs of heart failure
Homeostasis; physiopathology of simple and double disturbances in basic/acid balance
Kidney physiopathology (in particular acute and chronic kidney failure)
Hypertension: causes, classification, cardiovascular risk stratification, prognostic
Physiopathology of glycemic changes, main causes and clinical manifestations of diabetes mellitus
Physiopathology of the digestive system (in particular cirrhosis of the liver: causes and prognostic significance of its complications
Physiopathology of the lungs (in particular respiratory failure)
Physiopathology of the haemopoiesis process (erythropoiesis in particular)
Physiopathology of neoplastic lesions; role of toxic
