Learning outcomes
This year the program has been divided depending on course attendance:
PROGRAM FOR ATTENDERS
Two are the aims of the course. The first has to do with transferring those skills needed to map and analyze the interpersonal communicative structures. In particular, we will discuss the different communicative levels of content and relation, and we will examine the process of communicative self construction. The second aim is more general and it deals with showing the specific perspective from which sociology frames social phenomenons. We will demonstrate the practical utility of adopting a sociological way of thinking by motor science operators. To better achieve this second aim we discuss two different illustrative topics: a) The social influence on individual sports choices; b) the processes of social construction of body and bodily performances.
PROGRAM FOR NON-ATTENDERS
The course is divided into three parts. In the first one, the origin and the spread of sport practices will be interpreted in a strictly sociological vein and the role played in this process by mass media will be introduced. In the second part, the analysis will focus directly on mass media communication, examining the different sociological theories developed to understand the nature of mass communication and its influences on society. In the third and final part, attention will be given to audience research and the effects of all those process that have recently turned sport events into global spectacles.
