The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
This module has the objective to expose students to the principles of investment analysis and of theory of real estate valuation, with specific reference to the wine industry. Starting from the theory of value e from the foundation of financial mathematics, the student is gradually progressed towards learning and professional case studies which are typical of the wine sector, with special reference to investments in land, machinery, integrated (vertical and horizontal) businesses , and human capital, inclusive of multiplier and other spillover effects at the regional level.
Program
1. Introduction to the course and its organisation, history and evolution of the subject, basic concepts and links to economics.
2. Introduction to the elements of financial mathematics and their use in discounting and future values of assets and incomes, interest (simple and compounded), periodicities, annuities, discounting and the role of time, present & future value
3. Diversity between saving and investment, examples in wine sector.
4. Flows of revenues and costs, cumulations at beginning, at the end and at intermediate moments, amortization instalments, annual and multi-annual values limited or perennial.
5. Determinants of discount factors, differences between real and nominal interest rates.
6. Uncertainty in investment plans and its formal inclusion as subjective and objective probabilities.
7. Identification and assessment of the returns to investment from labour-saving technology.
8. A typical revenue and cost distribution over time for a vineyard, and its optimal age of replacement.
9. Investment analysis in activities of wine-making, wine aging and bottling.
10. Assessment of investments from the financial, social and familial perspective.
11. Portfolio management and subjective versus market valuation of financial products
12. Grape hail insurance, private and subsidised.
13. Numerical risk simulation, with and without subjective probabilities (group assignment)
14. Market value of the vineyard plot, and market value of the vertically integrated winery
15. Investment analysis in individual reputation and in the district of production
16. Case studies from the world.
17. Tutorials on computation with R (via R-Studio) and MS-Excel
Examination Methods
Students' performance will be evaluated on the basis of a series of criteria aimed at assessing their learning during their participation to team work, the consequent presentations to colleagues and a final written exam, followed by a mark proposal and the potential either confirmation or improvement in the oral exam.

Double degree
The University of Verona, through a network of agreements with foreign universities, offers international courses that enable students to gain a Double/Joint degree at the time of graduation. Indeed, students enrolled in a Double/Joint degree programme will be able to obtain both the degree of the University of Verona and the degree issued by the Partner University abroad - where they are expected to attend part of the programme -, in the time it normally takes to gain a common Master’s degree. The institutions concerned shall ensure that both degrees are recognised in the two countries.
Places on these programmes are limited, and admissions and any applicable grants are subject to applicants being selected in a specific Call for applications.
