Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning objectives
The course offers a critical reflection on the history of the European integration process from its origins to the present day, placing it in the broader context of the political, economic, and cultural evolution of post-1945 Europe. In this way, both the main historiographical interpretative lines and the different integration projects implemented by the actors involved will be examined. Particular attention will be devoted to the evolution of EU institutions, both in terms of their ecosystem and in their relationship with national institutions and with other international institutions. To this end, the course will integrate the text and the material essential for exam preparation, while offering ample space for participation and discussion in class. At the end of the course the student will have thus obtained a more dynamic but also more complex image of what the process of European integration has represented and continues to represent.
Prerequisites and basic notions
An adequate knowledge of the political history of Europe during the 20th century.
Program
The course will deal with the political, institutional and economic history of the European integration process, from its beginnings after the Second World War to the crises and transformations at the dawn of the new millennium. In the first part, the course will retrace the integration process in chronological order, avoiding teleological interpretations and evaluating the choices made by member states on the basis of current conditions. Particular attention will be paid to the evolution of the institutional structures that the European states have conferred on their collaboration.
In the second part, class discussion of a series of essays (the list of which will be communicated at the beginning of the course) will allow attention to be focused on crucial moments and particularly significant characters in the integration process, as well as on the evolution of historiographical interpretations. In this phase the active participation of students with individual reports and collective discussions will be required.
Finally, the participation of two external guests will be expected during as many lessons to discuss the topicality of the integration process and its historical and archival legacy.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
The lectures will be accompanied by seminars that will see the participation of the students: both with their presentations of the essays included in the bibliography of the exam, and with discussions in class. At least two lessons of the final part of the course will see the presence of external guests.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam will be oral and will consist of three questions on the program. For attending students who have actively participated in class reports and discussions, the questions will be limited to two.
Evaluation criteria
The mark will depend on the ability of synthesis, of diachronic comparison between the topics covered and on the ability of the students to make a compendium of what they have learned from the textbook and the essays.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The vote will be expressed out of thirty. The answer to each question will result in the awarding of a maximum of ten points.

CONTAMINATION LAB
The Contamination Lab Verona (CLab Verona) is an experiential course with modules on innovation and enterprise culture that offers the opportunity to work in teams with students from all areas to solve challenges set by companies and organisations.
Upon completion of a CLab, students will be entitled to receive 6 CFU (D- or F-type credits).

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be admitted to any teaching activities, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the academic year in which the activities in question are offered. Students who are about to graduate in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these graduation sessions are valid for students enrolled in the previous academic year. Therefore, students who undertake an activity in an academic year in which they are not enrolled will not be granted CFU credits.

Linguistic training CLA
Double degree
The University of Verona, through a network of agreements with foreign universities, offers international courses that enable students to gain a Double/Joint degree at the time of graduation. Indeed, students enrolled in a Double/Joint degree programme will be able to obtain both the degree of the University of Verona and the degree issued by the Partner University abroad - where they are expected to attend part of the programme -, in the time it normally takes to gain a common Master’s degree. The institutions concerned shall ensure that both degrees are recognised in the two countries.
Places on these programmes are limited, and admissions and any applicable grants are subject to applicants being selected in a specific Call for applications.
