Learning outcomes
The course aims to introduce the students to the analysis of the differing relations of male and female religious communities to the written word/the book/ the library, in the centuries xiv - xv. The course will analyse how, by whom and why the books were manufactured, which texts were selected and which typology and structure the individual libraries would assume during almost eleven centuries.
Program
Contents of the course: The analysis of documentary and literary sources attests the importance and value of books/ reading/ and libraries in male and female religious communities from the IVth to the XVth centuries. At the end of the course, the different solutions and attitudes adopted will underline that inside different religious familiae the librarian structure underwent important modifications/changes, which pave the way for modern/contemporary solutions.
