Myeloid cells induced by cancer (2025/2026)
Learning objectives
Emergency hematopoiesis is one of the key phenomena during neoplastic progression. In fact, tumor cells are able to leave soluble factors capable of inducing an imbalance in the genesis of myeloid cells by promoting the accumulation of cells that are not fully differentiated and with immunosuppressive capabilities. These cells are able to contribute directly to tumor growth by promoting the phenomenon of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis and above all by favoring the migration of tumor cells from the primary site to distal sites. The lesson will focus on characterizing at the molecular, epigenetic, metabolic and functional level this subset of cells re-propagated by the tumor in order to be able to use them as targets for new immunotherapy approaches or as circulating biomarkers for the diagnosis of cancer patients.
