The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

L-ANT/03 - ROMAN HISTORY

Prerequisites and basic notions

The course will explore several themes connected to the history of Roman civilization. Having attended a course of Roman history - even only at an introductory level - will consequently facilitate the comprehension of the topics discussed in class. If this is not the case, students will find it useful to acquire (or review) some basic notions of Roman history by reading handbooks such as A. Mastrocinque, Storia Romana (UTET) or G. Geraci and A. Marcone, Storia Romana (Editio minor). (Mondadori).

Program

The course will discuss the main characteristics of Roman civilization at the time of its greatest expansion (I - IV centuries CE), focusing on the life of the Romans by exploring themes such as urban and rural lifestyles, religion, travels, trade, service in the army etc.

Didactic methods

The lessons will be conducted in presence of the professor. Students are invited to participate as much as possible.

The exam will be held orally.

Evaluation criteria

Students will be asked to critically analyze one or more topics examined during the course, making reference to the primary and secondary sources discussed in class.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

Il voto verrà espresso in trentesimi. 18 sarà il voto minimo per passare l'esame.

Nell'ambito del corso di laurea magistrale in Quaternario, preistoria e archeologia è attivo un progetto di doppio titolo erogato in partnership con il Master “Mention Archéologie, sciences pour l’archéologie parcours Arts, Sociétés, Environnements de la Préhistoire et de la Protohistoire: Europe, Afrique” dell’Université de Toulouse Jean Jaurès (Francia)
