Program
This course proposes to explore the concept of security in the historical-political context of increasing global tensions and recurring crises. Starting from the events of September 11, 2001, through the economic crisis of 2007-2009, the issue of terrorism and the pandemic outbreak in 2020, it will reflect on the transformations of security and security governance at the international level. The primary objective is to provide a critical understanding of the dynamics influencing global security and the role of security policies in emergency management.
The course is structured by integrating theoretical perspective and empirical analysis of case studies, with an emphasis on "human security." It will examine the shift from the concept of national security to that of human security, exploring how nontraditional threats, such as pandemics and economic crises, require new policy strategies and increased international cooperation.
The path will be traced from reading and studying the text indicated in the bibliography. Critical study on human security will be conducted on a handout provided by the lecturer, which includes texts in English.
More information about the implementation of the research project will be given at the beginning of the semester.
For this teaching, no distinction is made between attending and non-attending students.
Registration on the course's Moodle page is mandatory for all and every student.

Didactic methods
The lectures include face-to-face teaching and applied moments of discussion, reflection and practice, including the use of data and materials from current events.
Learning assessment procedures
The methods of knowledge testing include two parts:
1. Research project:
- The research project, related to the course topics, will constitute 40% of the final grade.
- The topic of the project must be agreed with the lecturer by the end of the course, either during class or at receptions.
- The project must be submitted at least two weeks before the exam call chosen from the six available during the year.
2. Program Discussion:
- The program discussion will start from the analysis of the research project and will constitute 60% of the final grade.
- During the discussion, the student will be asked to expound on the content of their project and to answer questions that relate both to the project itself and to the topics covered during the course.
More information about the implementation of the research project will be given at the beginning of the semester.
Evaluation criteria
1. Knowledge and understanding skills:
* Criterion: demonstrated knowledge of the technical terms, concepts and fundamentals of the discipline.
> Assessment Indicator: accuracy and precision in the use of technical language and description of key concepts during discussion and in the research project.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
* Criterion: ability to argue scientifically by applying the terms, concepts and notions learned.
> Assessment Indicator: consistency and logical rigor in the arguments presented, ability to link theory and practice in the research project and during the discussion.
3. Autonomy of judgment:
* Criterion: Competence in developing autonomous analysis and reflection.
> Assessment Indicator: Originality and depth of analysis carried out in the research project, ability to develop critical and autonomous reflections during discussion.
A detailed assessment rubric will be provided at the beginning of the semester, which will be used for both the self-assessment of and by students, as well as for the final assessment.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is expressed out of thirty and it is assigned based on an assessment rubric in which the expected skills and competencies are specified
The attribution of the distinction is envisaged in cases in which more than excellent, impeccable and excellent knowledge and skills have been demonstrated during the exam.
