Learning objectives
The goal of the course is to make clear the cultural and educational aspects of media education: in order to this, it is necessary to understand the cognitive and meta-cognitive processes involved in cultural consumption and how people of different age “use” different media products. Through a deep theoretical analysis, the preservice teachers will learn how to plan educational activities dealing with every kind of media (from the paper to the Information and Communications Technology), with an informed and creative approach.
Prerequisites and basic notions
- Knowledge of historical periods and authors in the history of art. - Basic knowledge of the history of cinema. - Knowledge of current regulations for preschool and elementary school (Field of expertise: Images, sounds, and colors - Subject: Art and image).
Program
Acquire knowledge and research and reflection skills that enable students to analyze and interpret artworks and design and implement effective graphic-pictorial and visual experiences in preschool and elementary school learning contexts. The main topics covered include: the founding principles of art teaching and pedagogy; understanding the interdisciplinary elements that characterize the visual, musical, and expressive-performative arts; and the role that technological tools can play in educational and teaching practice.

Didactic methods
The course will adopt a student-oriented approach, with moments of frontal lessons and participatory lessons alternating with the use of training devices based on active and collaborative teaching strategies.
Learning assessment procedures
The final exam consists of two parts: - A short essay presenting a topic from modern and contemporary art of the student's choosing. - An oral exam in a small group aimed at presenting the short essay, individually developed, and identifying possible interconnections and interpretations of the themes and subthemes of visual and expressive-performative art discussed within the small group. Students with disabilities or specific learning disabilities (SLD) who wish to request an adaptation of the exam should contact the Inclusion and Accessibility Office.
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation criteria for the individual short essay are: depth of study of the themes and subthemes of art, and use of vocabulary appropriate to the topics covered. The essay will be graded out of 30. The evaluation criteria for both the short essay and the oral exam will be explained in class.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained in the individual essay and the oral exam. The final grade will also take into account the laboratory evaluation.
