Learning objectives

The goal of the course is to develop a pedagogical knowledge about planning, negotiating day to day classroom activity, motivating students and evaluating educational practices for children in pre-primary school and primary school. These aspects are necessary for every teacher because the need to develop a knowledge that are based on the characteristics of the context in which he/she works and to plan educational practices that promote good development processes.

The course, which consists of a lecture path and a laboratory, has as its purpose the maturation of hermeneutic skills in students, so that they are able to reflect on the role of the school in the construction of a new humanism, fueled by the ethics of care. Recognizing then the research competence as constitutive of the teaching professionalism, it also intends to propose to students an epistemologically rigorous method and accompany them in the exercise of analysis of educational practices, in order to reread the empirical data collected during the educational-didactic experiences in which they are involved.

Didactic methods

The course will alternate moments of frontal lessons, for the in-depth study of the fundamental themes addressed in the texts, with moments of active teaching. In particular, students will be involved in individual reflective writing workshops and in group activities during which they will approach hermeneutic and heuristic practices.

Learning assessment procedures

For lectures: The assessment of learning will be in written form through open-ended questions related to the topics in the exam texts. The test lasts two hours.
For laboratories: The assessment of learning will be through the presentation of a paper documenting the work done in the classroom.

Evaluation criteria

Students must demonstrate that they:
* know the fundamental concepts present in the exam texts;
* be able to argue the theoretical positions and the educational choices resulting from them;
* be able to analyze, according to rigorous heuristic and hermeneutic practices, the educational contexts in which they are involved;
* use precise and adequate vocabulary to support the arguments.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade will consist of the weighted average of the course evaluation and the laboratory evaluation. The grade is out of thirtieths.
