Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able to:
- Understand linguistic and semiotic approaches to the definition and the categorization of intralingual translation and current directions of the debate on this category within Translation Studies
- Identify key areas of research and contexts of application of intralingual translation within Translation and Interpreting Studies
- Identify main derivational strategies employed in intralingual rewritings within Translation and Interpreting Studies
Program
This course will provide an overview of current theoretical approaches and debates in relation to the category of intralingual translation within the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. It will examine instances of intralingual reformulation from various disciplines and in relation to different areas of written and oral communication, both from a diachronic and synchronic perspective, in order to highlight some of the most relevant linguistic processes and derivative strategies involved in this kind of translation, and the important role played by intralingual transfer in different areas of linguistic mediation.
