Learning objectives

GENERAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES. *To know and understand the processes concerning training and education according to the perspective of disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, law, geography, and anthropology. *To apply ethics-philosophy, sociology, law, geography, and anthropology knowledge to observe and understand diversity and migratory phenomena in order to favour and support processes of social and cultural inclusion. SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES. *To know models of argumentation with specific reference to multimedia communication and linguistic processes. *To recognize the logic rules that can guarantee the value of our discourses and argumentations that can persuade and make acceptable our proposals. *To recognize the specific characteristics of multimedia communication.

Prerequisites and basic notions

No prior knowledge is required, besides a basic knowledge of the history of western philosophy.

Program

The aim of the course is to analyse specifically the form of “diversity” determined by mental pathology, in order to reflect on certain methodologies that have been historically introduced to interpret its languages and, more generally, its peculiar forms of expression. These methodologies have not infrequently drawn on conceptual frameworks derived from philosophy and, more particularly, phenomenology, thereby opening this domain of reflection to applications that have contextually enriched its field of inquiry and placed it deeper into issues characterized by strong anthropological implications. Several clinical cases will be placed at the centre of the discussion, which will be compared starting from their biographical-anamnestic specificity and then studying how the recourse to philosophical tools has contributed both to their adequate framing and to an insightful analysis of the problems emerged during treatment. As terms of comparison with respect to the challenge posed for the clinician by the universe of the patient, the following will be occasionally evoked: 1) the case of cultural anthropologists’ confrontation with the law of indigenous peoples of remote places considered primitive; and 2) the case of the so-called “clash of civilizations” discussed by some political scientists.

Didactic methods

The course will be conducted through lectures aimed at presenting the case studies contained in the analyzed texts and bringing out the emplyment of philosophical methodologies for their definition and discussion. The possibility is open for interested students to rpesent short descritpive exposés, with the aim of facilitating the discussion of the problems at stake.
Each lesson will be recorded and uploaded on the e-learning platform of the University, with the aim of making easier the study for both attending students and those who cannot attend lectures.
Besides the reception time indicated on the teacher’s webpage, it will always be possible to arrange for a reception also in online mode.
Any suspension of lectures for academic reasons will be readily communicated in the classroom, on the web site, and on the e-learning platform forum.

Learning assessment procedures

The assessment of the acquisition of the fundamental concepts of the course will be done through an in-person oral examination (or remotely, via Zoom), in which the student will be asked both to demonstrate knowledge of the themes and problems described during the course and to show mastery of the analytical tools through which the case studies were thematized and compared with each other.

Evaluation criteria

The evaluation is based both on the content knowledge demonstrated by answering the questions asked and on the expository skills through which the content is expressed. In cases where the student has made a presentation during the course, it will contribute to determine the final grade.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The grades are expressed in thirtieths (and in special cases the mention of praise is also granted).
