Learning objectives

Choose and apply methodologies and teaching strategies to diversify, functional to complex training contexts and characterized by emerging personal and social needs. SPECIFIC TRAINING OBJECTIVES To understand the basic methods of territorial analysis and apply them to the different territorial systems, with focus on the following topics: production systems, specific characteristics of firms and labour markets, public actors and the relationships between local dynamics and global changes (economical, technological, geopolitical, demographical, etc.). On this basis, students will be able to outline the specific training needs of companies and organizations in their territorial contexts.

Recent dynamics of economic system and globalization: the geographical scenario
Globalization and local development
The spatial organization of industry, deindustrialization, offshoring, reshoring and their impact on labor
Small firms and industrial districts
The multinational firm and the new spatial division of labor

The geographical effects of tourism
The city and the urban function
The effect of human action on natural environment

Didactic methods

The course will be exclusively in person with class teaching to introduce the main theoretical concepts and the methodological skills to analyze territorial systems; discussion of case studies. The slides of the lessons and further material will be available on the Moodle platform of the University before each lesson.

Learning assessment procedures

Written examination with ten open questions on the topics of the course, formulated so that the student can provide brief and effective responses. Available time to complete the exam: one hour. The exam will evaluate the knowledge of the course topics and the competencies of the methods and scientific language of Economic Geography.
For attending students, the questions will regard the handbook, the topics and the case studies discussed during the lessons.
For non attending students, the questions will regard the two textbooks in the program. They will replace the topics and the case studies discussed during the lessons.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

Up to a maximum of 3 points for each answer. The evaluation of the exam is expressed in thirties.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final mark is made up of the sum of the ten scores.
