Learning outcomes
Conceps, models, theories in nursing.
After the course, the students are able to
•understand the levels of abstraction of nursing from practice to metatheory.
•differentiate or rather rank various theories concerning contents, objectives, functions, range, abstraction.
•outline contents of selected nursing theories.
•reflect the meaning of theories including evidence-basing regarding her/his future practial actions.
Advanced Nursing Process
After the course, the students are able to
•differentiate the Advanced Nursing Process from the traditional nursing process;
•call the characteristics and associated difficulties of nursing terminologies;
•call notions that relate to classification systems;
•differentiate and rate the most important nursing classification systems and their objectives;
•briefly assess assessment instruments (development/origin, range of application, psychometrical and application-oriented test results);
•apply handwritten documentation systems and understand electronic Health records (EHR) including decision support systems;
•carry out clinical decision-making: to state nursing diagnoses based on nursing assessment and suitable instruments (nursing diagnostic), to derive appropriate nursing interventions and nursing sensitive patient outcomes (intervention judgement and ethical decision-making);
•apply case specific NANDA-I nursing diagnoses and the linked Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) and Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) in the learning arena.

Examination Methods
The students state two case specific nursing diagnoses including correct linked nursing sensitive patient outcomes and nursing interventions. They perform a peer-review by exchanging their care plans.
