SECS-P/10 - ORGANIZATION AND HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Period

primo semestre (lauree magistrali) dal Oct 5, 2020 al Dec 23, 2020.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge related to the methodologies and analysis tools suitable for interpreting the organizational structures and operational mechanisms present within the various companies. Particular attention will be devoted to the theme of the digital transformation, namely how information and communication technologies (ICT, Information and Communication Technologies) are changing processes, organizational structures, and company operating mechanisms. The theoretical approach refers to the main organizational theories including transaction cost theory, agency theory, contingent and situational theories, the theory of resource dependence, institutional theory, the knowledge-based view. Part of the course will be dedicated to the development of skills in Human Resource Management. In fact, digital transformation requires aligning the skills of Human Resources with new needs. We will, therefore, provide knowledge on the alignment with the organizational strategies of all the HRM phases: research, selection, development, and remuneration of human resources. This course will allow the student to develop an organic and complete view of the topic of organizational design both at an intra-organizational level and at an inter-organizational level. Ample space will also be dedicated to issues relating to Decision Making and the role of information technologies both in organizational design and in the context of Decision Making.

Program

Fundamental problems of organizational design
Design the organizational structure between authority and control
Design the organizational structure between specialization and coordination
The establishment and management of corporate culture
Plan and organizational strategy in a changing global environment
Organizational planning and technology
Organizational change and organizational transformations
Decision Making, Knowledge Management, and ICT (Information and Communication Technology).
The impacts of digital transformation on businesses
Enterprise 4.0 and the organization of work
Soft skills and digital skills.
Part of the course will be dedicated to deepening the theme of digital transformation and the organizational implications that ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) have for businesses.
However, the digital transformation process concerns the adoption of new technologies. Still, it requires the implementation of a much broader change, which involves numerous aspects of the enterprise value chain, from the definition of the strategy to the structure and organizational culture. All this also makes it necessary to align the skills of Human Resources with new needs.

In addition to the lectures during the course, space will be given to the analysis and discussion of cases developed by the students. To complete the training course, organizational design experts working in national and international leaders will be invited to testify.
Furthermore, during the entire academic year, the individual reception service managed by the teachers is available, at times indicated on the web pages (without the need to set a specific appointment) and continuously updated.
The content of the textbook, as well as the lessons and exercises held in the classroom, is part of the program. During the lessons, the slides will be made available as a study material.
The program and study materials are the same, regardless of the frequency of lessons.

Examination Methods

ENGL
The exam consists of a written test.

The exam will be written and involves the development of a topic that will be assigned using Moodle's written exam mode with an open question. The student(s) will have 30 minutes to write the answer.
Students are encouraged to consult the notices in Moodle.

The exam wants to verify the level of knowledge of the topics concerning the design of the organizations matured by the students. At the same time, they are studied to test students' ability to interpret the main problems linked to the macro and micro design of organizations.

The test is intended to ascertain:
- knowledge of the topics in the program, with particular reference to their application and methodological aspects;
- the ability to apply the logical schemes to the various organizational design problems presented;
- the depth and breadth of knowledge gained;
- the property of language;
- the ability to use the techniques and tools of the course.
The final evaluation, which takes into account any activities (case studies) carried out during the course, is expressed in 30ths.
Students who have taken the case study will receive from 2 to 4 points (in 30th) more, depending on the commitment dedicated to deepening the case.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
