Learning objectives

At the end of the course, students will be able to evaluate the ethical dimension of business and to adopt ethical responsible choices when inserted in professional context. In detail, the course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge about ethical theories, ethical consequences of different firm theories, civil economy, the purpose and forms of firms (with particular attention to hybrid models), and models of evaluation and communication of social impact. With regards to skills, the course enables students to mature skills about ethical evaluation of business, measurement of social impact, management of tools useful to cultivate relationships with stakeholders, and building virtuous work environment.

Prerequisites and basic notions

The course aims to introduce the student to the field of business ethics studies; the basic elements of business theory and management are a prerequisite of the course

The program is the same for both attending and non-attending students.

Didactic methods

Teaching involves the interaction of different teaching methods and is supported by a Moodle platform to which students can register to find material relating to the lessons. Alongside traditional lessons, teaching strategies will be used, such as participatory lessons, cooperative learning, company case studies and company visits, film viewing, and other active dynamics aimed at allowing students to develop practical skills and abilities, criticism, as well as the learning of knowledge.
The study material - consisting not only of the textbook but also of articles, book chapters, slides, and other documentary materials - is summarized in the "general information" section of the e-learning platform.
Lessons take place in person at the time indicated in the appropriate space on the website. However, the delivery contents of the lessons will be recorded and the recordings will be available on the teaching Moodle platform. The participatory teaching activities will be carried out in the classroom and may, by their nature, not be recordable.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam includes an oral test which, in addition to deepening the student's knowledge of the exam topics, aims to ascertain their skills in terms of language ownership, ability to systemically connect the issues, and discuss real cases in the light of business ethics theories. The oral test has an average duration of 15 minutes and includes three questions. The candidate will first be asked to present a topic of his or her choice; subsequently, the student will randomly extract two additional questions from a list made available via the Moodle platform at the end of the lessons. In answering the questions, the candidate may also refer to case studies or examples, which allow us to understand his or her ability to apply the knowledge acquired.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The following evaluation criteria are adopted:
- depth and breadth of knowledge acquired (does the student know the topics in the program?)
- ability to apply concepts to specific business situations (does the student know how to discuss the ethical dimension of business problems?)
- command of language in written production and oral discussion (does the student express himself correctly?)
- completeness of the learning path (does the student know how to discuss the different topics of the course? And does he know how to connect them?) T
The ability to manage the time assigned for the presentation of the topics will also be assessed.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final score will be expressed on a 30 points scale.

Type D and Type F activities

The didactic plans of each course of study provide for the obligation to obtain a certain number of credits through optional activities (also called 'type D and F').

In addition to teaching provided for in the didactic plans of other courses and language or IT certifications as specified in the regulations of each course, these activities may also consist of extracurricular initiatives of various contents, such as, for example, participation in a seminar or a series of seminars, attendance at teaching workshops, carrying out project work, additional internships, etc.

As with any other elective activity, these must be consistent with knowledge and skills already acquired by the student.

Those listed on this page are the extracurricular initiatives that the Teaching Commission has approved and, therefore, allow those who take part in them to acquire the specified credits, subject to the conditions set out on the detail pages of each initiative.

In this regard, please note that:
- all these initiatives require, for the acquisition of the relative CFUs, the passing of a test to verify the skills acquired, following the indications contained in the 'Examination methods' section of the individual activity
- the student must include the chosen activity in his or her study plan and enrol in the roll specifically created for the test, the date of which is set by the teacher of reference and published in the 'Examination methods' section of the individual activity.

WARNING: To be admitted to any teaching activity, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the course year in which it is offered. Graduands in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these sessions are valid for the previous academic year. Therefore, no CFU recognition will be granted for activities carried out in an academic year in which they are not enrolled.

Graduation

The final exam consists of a paper in written form of at least 80 pages, exploring a topic of the student's choice relating to one of the subjects in the student's syllabus. The topic and title of the paper must be selected in agreement with a university lecturer from one of the SSDs included in the student's syllabus. The work must be developed under the guidance of the lecturer. The thesis is the subject of an oral presentation and discussion in front of a Degree Committee on one of the dates established explicitly in the calendar of teaching activities. In agreement with the Supervisor, the thesis may be written, and the discussion may take place in English.


Internships

The curriculum of the three-year degree courses (CdL) and master's degree courses (CdLM) in the economics area includes an internship as a compulsory training activity. Indeed, the internship is considered an appropriate tool for acquiring professional skills and abilities and for facilitating the choice of a future professional outlet that aligns with one's expectations, aptitudes, and aspirations. The student can acquire further competencies and interpersonal skills through practical experience in a work environment.

Method of attendance, teaching delivery and locations

The lectures on all the subjects of the course of study and the related examinations take place in person.

However, as a further service to students, it is also envisaged that, unless otherwise announced by the individual lecturer, lectures will be video-recorded and made available on the relevant e-learning spaces of the lectures a few weeks after they have taken place. Exceptions to this timing will only be possible for part-time students.

Attendance is not compulsory.

Further details on compulsory attendance can be found in the course regulations available under Regulations in the Course menu. Although the regulations do not stipulate a specific obligation, please check the instructions provided by the individual lecturer for each course or any laboratories and/or internships.

Part-time enrolment is permitted.

The venue for lectures and examinations is the Vicenza University Hub.
