Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce students to concepts, methods and languages for the management of data and information. Students will learn how to design, created and query databases for building information systems. At end of the course the students: - will know how to create a data model, in particular according to the relational paradigm; - will know how to concretely build databases using specific languages such as SQL; - will know the basic principles of database design; - will be able to create, populate, and query databases.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Previous attendance of the course "Introduction to Humanistic Computer Science" in the first year, and of the course "Programming Languages for the Humanities" in the second year.

Didactic methods
Frontal lessons in the classroom with practical exercise activities also on the computer.
Materials and resources will be provided during the course to support the lessons, and uploaded to the course's Moodle page.
Learning assessment procedures
Attendance at the course is highly recommended but not mandatory.
There is no difference in programme, materials and exam between attending and non-attending students
The exam takes place through the development of an individual project for the creation of a database, and related discussion during the exam.
