CONTAMINATION LAB 

The Contamination Lab Verona (CLab Verona) is an experiential course with modules on innovation and enterprise culture that offers the opportunity to work in teams with students from all areas to solve challenges set by companies and organisations.

Upon completion of a CLab, students will be entitled to receive 6 CFU (D- or F-type credits).

PLEASE NOTE: In order to be admitted to any teaching activities, including those of your choice, you must be enrolled in the academic year in which the activities in question are offered. Students who are about to graduate in the December and April sessions are therefore advised NOT to undertake extracurricular activities in the new academic year in which they are not enrolled, as these graduation sessions are valid for students enrolled in the previous academic year. Therefore, students who undertake an activity in an academic year in which they are not enrolled will not be granted CFU credits.

Learning objectives

The Business Organization and human resources management course aims to provide students with knowledge about basic tools and fundamental institutions that are required to understand organizational functioning.
To this end, conceptual and operational tools are provided in order to interpret and design organizational structures that are oriented toward innovation and human resources. The course also aims to develop interpretation skills of different aspects related to organizational culture.
At the end of the course students will be able to understand the basic concepts of business organization, to identify the main organizational categories and to recognize the variables that allow to develop human resources of innovative organizations. Students will be also able to detect opportunities deriving from the socio-economic environment that facilitate the development of new business models.

Program

Part of the content will be related to the conceptual basis for the analysis of organizational realities, such as: the organizational definitions and problems; theories and models of organization; organizational behavior.
Attention will be on the dynamics of work organization and the development of its analysis profiles through: the scientific management; the study of work; fatigue, industrial monotony; efficiency and efficacy; the Human Relations; the school of Human Resources; socio-technical systems.
Further scenario will be the study of decision making processes and the theory of bounded rationality in relation to innovation, entrepreneurship and the organization of Small and Medium Enterprises.
The knowledge of conceptual and operational tools to read and design organizational structures will be achieved through the understanding of the dynamics of construction of objectives and business strategies, design processes and elements of organizational structures, all in relation to the variables of the environment and innovation.
One part of the course will be devoted to the study of the variables on which to intervene for the development of human resources of an innovative company, in particular: human resources management and competitive advantage; personnel planning and research; selection processes; training; performance management.

Didactic methods

Materials also in English (articles, reports, videos ...) useful for deepening the topics independently will be made available on the Moodle platform of the course.
The lessons include moments of personal activation (discussions, group work, case studies, drafting and presentation of papers ...) as well as in-depth activities through meetings with company witnesses and expert professionals.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam will take place in written form: 20 multiple choice questions (up to 10/30) and 2 open questions (up to 20/30) on the whole program; oral form for Erasmus students who request it.
There are no different forms of exams for non-attending and attending students (the latter will be given the opportunity to work on specific projects to integrate learning, such as the drafting of personal or group papers and participation in scientific and popular events).

There will be an intermediate test formulated as follows:
- optional,
- written,
- 30 multiple choice items,
- evaluated in 30ths,
- on the program carried out in the first part of the semester (students will be informed on the Moodle page of the course on the contents of the midterm test at least one month before)
- Partial grade model: students who have passed the midterm with at least 15/30 will be exempted from the questions related to the parts that will be indicated in the exam (by April 2022) and the grade obtained will weigh 50% on the final grade (if at least a 18/30 mark is achieved in the final test);
- valid for both summer exams.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The 20 multiple choice questions are aimed at measuring knowledge of the specific contents of the planned program; the 2 open questions will allow to detect the student's ability to express and link together ideas, problems and solutions learned in a coherent and synthetic way (in particular in the chapters indicated in the texts "Business Organization" Daft LR and "Human Resources Management" Noe RA et al.).

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

a) 10 multiple choice items from the chapters of the volume Favretto G. (2010) = 10 / 30ths
b) 10 multiple choice items from the chapters Daft + Noe = 10 / 30ths
c) 2 open questions from the chapters Daft + Noe = 10 / 30th -total 30/30 (with honors if the open questions are of quality) -duration 40 minutes
